A day after former IPS officer and Team Anna member Kiran Bedi joined Bharatiya Janata Party, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Shazia Ilmi joined the party.

Speaking to media, Shazia Ilmi said, "I am thankful to everyone for this opportunity. This is an opportunity to work, to serve the people."

She further added, "There is new political discourse in the country and we all must be a part of it. We must move towards positive politics, change the lawlessness approach and move towards development."

Stating that she don't want to contest elections and just want to serve the people, she added, "We don't want people in Delhi to face chaotic confrontation, we want that people of Delhi be given disciplined good-governance."

Welcoming Shazia Ilmi, Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay said, "Her presence will further strengthen the party."

Earlier in the day, Ilmi met party chief Amit Shah.

On Thursday, asserting that many people are disenchanted with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, Shazia Ilmi had said that she would aggressively campaign against the outfit.

"I want to expose the AAP for what it is and so I will do whatever I can to that effect,” Ilmi told the media here.

Ilmi had quit the AAP in May last year, stating that there is lack of inner party democracy in the party. She had also accused Kejriwal of ignoring other leaders and being surrounded by 'crony clique'.
