If things go well, social activist Anna Hazare will have a temple dedicated to him in Gurgaon. PL Kataria (36), a social activist and private teacher who is a member of a Gurgaon-based group ‘Haryana Berojgar Sangh’ told dna that after their plan to install Hazare’s statue at Sector-4, 7 Crossing was spoiled by a local BJP leader, the activists have planned to build a temple of Anna Hazare in Ashok Vihar colony in Gurgaon.

On December 29 last, Anna Hazare had written a letter to BJP chief Rajnath Singh complaining that a local BJP leader in Gurgaon was creating hurdles in installation of his statue.

“Annaji did not want his statue to be installed but we were keen. Since this issue has been blown out of proportion, we have planned to build his temple in Ashok Vihar colony in Gurgaon. By January end we would start the work,” said Kataria, who was arrested in April 2012 for trying to install a six feet statue of Anna Hazare.

Umesh Aggarwal, the local BJP leader objected to the installation of Anna’s statue also spoke to dna. “In 2003, the then municipal council of Gurgaon named this square after Lala Lajpat Rai and gave it ‘Vaish Bandhu Sangthan’ to develop it. I was the general secretary of this group then. In 2012, these activists wanted to install Hazare’s statue here, and we opposed it. BJP chief Rajnath Singh has asked me to support the installation of Hazare’s statue at any place in Gurgaon except this,” said Umesh Aggarwal, who also contested assembly election on BJP ticket but lost to Congress’ Sukhbir Kataria.

PL Kataria has been associated with Anna Hazare since his Janlokpal movement in 2011 in Ramlila Maidan.

“Since the anti-graft movement in 2011, I have been associated with Anna Hazare and there are more than 400 people here who believe in Anna Hazare’s ideology. As far as installation of statue of concerned, we had filled an RTI in administration from where we learnt that this Sector-4,7 Crossing doesn’t have any name and that is why we tried to install Anna’s statue here. But now we will focus on building his temple,” added Kataria.
