Railway experts from Japan, Korea, Italy and France are soon likely to visit India for a comprehensive audit of rail safety in the wake of railways creaking with accidents. Sources in railways on Sunday said that railways has decided to go for a third party audit in order to get best results in improving railway safety in India.

The first trip of experts is likely to come from Japan and the team is going to inspect the site in Kanpur where Indore-Patna Express train derailed, leaving nearly 150 people dead and 200 injured. A source, on condition of anonymity said, "The first team of experts may arrive in February itself."

On December 29, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had said that he reached out to his counterparts in South Korea and Japan to improve rail safety in India. The minister held telephonic discussions with representatives of both the nations and requested them to provide technological assistance in making India's railway network safer.

"The minister requested experts from Japan and Korea to visit India and to recommend suitable technological solutions," a statement from Railway Ministry said.
