For the last few days, Kerala has been observing mild weather activity but there are chances of good amounts of rain in the state between November 17-18. Some places in the state may receive moderate to heavy rainfall during this period.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a weather system in the form of an easterly trough running from Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari to the Andaman Sea will move closer to the southeast peninsular coast which will give rain in Kerala.

Some rainfall activity is also expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Isolated heavy showers have been forecast in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts of Kerala on Tuesday and Wednesday.

IMD’s regional meteorological centre in Thiruvananthapuram has also issued an Orange alert for 48 hours in these districts. The remaining parts of Kerala are likely to receive light to moderate rain.

Due to the ongoing Northeast Monsoon season - gives rainfall over Southern Peninsula during October to December, Kerala is already experiencing wet weather conditions. For the last couple of days, the state has witnessed light rain in most parts.

During the Northeast monsoon season so far (between October 1 and November 14), Kerala has received 269.7 mm rainfall, which is 33% deficient.

Forecast of moderate to heavy rain in Kerala between November 17-18 will definitely help the state in pulling down the deficiency to some extent.
