Forces foil terror attack at Air Force station in Pulwama

The attack comes 24 hours after a 55-year-old mentally-challenged man was shot dead when he tried to enter the highly fortified Air Force Station in Central Kashmir's Budgam district on Sunday.

Terrorists opened fire at security forces near an Air Force station in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, defense sources said. A massive cordon and search operation was launched after the terrorists lobbed grenades and fired indiscriminately at the Air Force Water Pump House outside the Air Force Station at Malangpora village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. No loss of life or property was reported.

"Two to three terrorists attacked the Air Force Water Pump House, Malangpora, located outside Air Force Station, Awantipora, at around 5.30 pm. Indian forces retaliated effectively," said Colonel Rajesh Kalia, defence spokesman, Srinagar.

The terrorists beat a hasty retreat from the spot after the Indian security forces retaliated. The area was cordoned off immediately, and launched search operations to track down the terrorists. Reinforcements were also been rushed to the spot to help the forces on ground in nabbing the attackers.

He was shot at when he refused to retreat despite repeated warnings.
