Five people, including two women, were killed when the driver of a car lost control over the vehicle and it fell into a pond, police said today.

The incident took place in the Pihani area last night due to heavy fog, they said.

Those killed were identified as Munne (50), Gulez (30), Ashiq Ali (55), Rukhsana (50) and Darkashan (26).

Several road accidents, primarily due to fog have been reported from Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh in since November last year. Earlier this month, five national-level powerlifters, including Saksham Yadav, who had bagged a gold medal for India at the World Weightlifting Championships last year, lost their lives while another was critically injured when their speeding car lost control and rammed into a pole near Singhu on the Delhi-Haryana border.

In December last year,  a 26-year-old Australian biker was killed, while four others – including a minor – received injuries when a speeding Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus rammed into a truck due to the dense fog, and then hit the Australian's two-wheeler at the Yamuna Expressway on Thursday.
