Fodder scam: Lalu Yadav to appear in CBI court in Patna today

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed chargesheets against 44 persons in the case in April 2003.

A CBI court in Patna has directed 31 accused, including RJD President Lalu Prasad and former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra, to be present before it on Friday in connection with a case of multi-crore rupee fodder scam.

The case relates to withdrawal of 46 lakh rupees illegally from treasuries in Bhagalpur and Banka by the Animal Husbandry department between 1994 and 1996.

CBI had filed chargesheets against 44 persons in the case in April 2003.

Yadav and Mishra are currently on bail after serving jail term in Ranchi in another case of the fodder scam.

The fodder scam relates to fraudulent withdrawal of around 1,000 crore rupees by Animal Husbandry department from various districts when Lalu Prasad was Bihar chief minister from 1990 to 1997.
