Rahul Mehra served as an Independent Director of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. since January 14, 2009 until October 5, 2012. Naveen Jindal, who is the promoter of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd and was also a Congress MP.

Sports activist
He, along with his friend Shantanu Sharma, filed a PIL against BCCI seeking accountability and transparency in the way BCCI was run.
