First time MP Lalchand Kataria was engaged in agriculture and social work before he took plunge into politics and bagged a ministerial berth at the Centre.

The 44-year-old Congress MP, who has been made Minister of State for Defence, entered the Lok Sabha in 2009 from Jaipur Rural constituency.

Kataria, a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, had become an MLA in 2003 and was a member of the Assembly's OBC Committee.

Kataria, who has studied up to 10+2 level, lists agriculture as his occupation and also heads the Ram Pratap Kataria Charitable Trust.

Interestingly, Kataria was also a national-level Kabaddi player in 1988-89.
