First Lady Suvra Mukherjee's ashes immersed in Ganga

Suvra was admitted to the hospital on August 7 after she complained of breathlessness and discomfort.

The ashes of Suvra Mukherjee, wife of President Pranab Mukherjee, were immersed into Ganga river at Har ki Pairi in Haridwar on Wednesday evening. Her ashes were carried in an urn by her son Abhijit Mukherjee, a Lok Sabha MP from Jangipur in West Bengal, and immersed into the river as per the rituals at Brahmakund Har Ki Pairi at around 6.30 on Wednesday evening, District Administration sources said.

Ranjit Rawat, OSD to Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Kumbh Mela in-charge Purushottam Sharma, Ganga Sabha purohits and a host of district administration officials were present when Suvra's ashes were immersed in the river. 

Suvra was admitted to the hospital on August 7 after she complained of breathlessness and discomfort. Since then she was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She breathed her last on Tuesday. Besides her husband, Suvra leaves behind two sons Abhijit, a Congress MP, and Indrajit and daughter Sharmistha.
