Two floors of the historic City Palace in Jaipur caught fire this morning, ruining artifacts and documents, even though no injuries have been reported.

The fire had started at the first floor, where it caused a lot of damage and later spread to the ground floor. Some paintings, old records and some handicrafts items had also been destroyed, according to the chief fire officer.

Taking stock of the situation, District Collector Krishna Kumar said, "The fire took place in the morning. We were informed about the fire catching up in the museum and the artifact library. After that we called the Chief fire officer, the police and they have now been able to successfully control the fire."

"The items and artifacts have been damaged and a large number of documents have been damaged in those two floors," he added. The reason for the sudden fire is also being investigated, according to Kumar.

Ishwar Lal, the chief fire officer, said, "We got a message around 8.45 am about this fire. We sent three fire brigades immediately. After that at least 22-23 fire brigades were sent here. The fire brigade reached in time to contain the fire from spreading to another block."
