An FIR has been registered against a Russian diplomat who in an allegedly intoxicated state allegedly hit a constable in Moti Bagh in Delhi. Meanwhile the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been briefed about the incident.

The diplomat has been booked under IPC Section 186- obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions, 353- assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, 332- voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty and 337- causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others.

The Delhi Police has no authority to arrest the diplomatic due to his 'diplomatic immunity' which is why through the MHA, intervention of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is being sought.

Following this, the Russian Embassy will be left to contemplate action on the diplomat. Earlier on Wednesday, the diplomat, who was severely intoxicated, rammed into a police barricade and also rear-ended a motorbike, injuring two.

The incident happened late at night around 1:30 am where the diplomat after hitting the bike was asked to stop by the police. But instead of stopping, he slammed his car into the barricade.

The diplomat refused to come out of the car and allegedly punched and abused a constable on duty. Besides the other biker who has been admitted in AIIMS, the Russian official also sustained injuries and was seen with a heavily bleeding nose.
