Finance Minister Arun Jaitley takes additional charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley assumed additional charge of the Information and Broadcasting (I-B) Ministry at Shastri Bhawan in Delhi on Monday.

Praising Minister of State (Independent Charge) Prakash Javedekar, who retains charge of the Environment Ministry, Jaitley said the former had handled the I-B department with a lot of hard work and commitment.

He also spoke about how the I-B ministry needs to "seen in the direction of a changed media".

"Earlier also I have been in this department, but earlier the print media was more proffered, but now TV and radio are also there, and earlier, it was only DD and Prasar Bharati. Now, the department needs to be seen in the direction of the changed media," said Jaitley.

Meanwhile, Rajyavardhan Rathore who has been given the charge of Minister of State (MoS) I-B Ministry added, "Minimum Government and Maximum Governance' is an attitude Prime Minister Modi wants all of us to have."

Yesterday, in the first Cabinet expansion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government; former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar took over from Arun Jaitley as the new Defence Minister.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, however, was given an additional charge of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's additional charge.

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore will be the Minister of State in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
