Filmograph 4 to focus on communalism

For the fourth time this year, Filmograph – a documentary film festival— is being jointly held by organisations like Insaf, Gurjar Wani, Jan Vikas, Darshan, Aman Samuday, Lok Kala Manch, Connect and Act, Waves, Himat and Prashant. The theme of the festival this time, titled Filmograph 4, is politics of communalism and development in Gujarat.

Explaining the choice of theme, director of Darshan, Hiren Gandhi said that they want the youth of India to raise questions related to politics and development that goes on in the state. Gandhi said, “There are endless questions related to the 2002 riots and other issues that remain unanswered. With elections round the corner, such matters need to be addressed.”

The six documentaries to be screened include ‘Killing Fields of Gujarat’ by Pravin Mishra, ‘The Passenger’ by Nooh Nizami and Akanksha Joshi, ‘Words on Water’ by Sanjay Kak, ‘Encountered On Saffron Agenda’ by Shubhradeep Chakravorty, ‘Khedu Mora Re’ by Rakesh Sharma and ‘Vikas Chalu Chhe’ by Prachi Bajaniya.

The movie ‘Killing Fields of Gujarat’ revolves around the encounters of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati as well as murder of Kausar Bi. This movie will be released at the festival.

Another movie, ‘Vikas Chalu Chhe’ talks about development of Kankaria lake and the system of charging Rs10 entry fee that alienated the lower class. “It looks at development that takes place at the cost of social differences,” said Prachi Bajaniya, director of the movie.

The festival will be held from December 6 to 9 at BK Hall, Pritamnagar Akhada. Entry is free for students (must carry ID cards) and Rs10 for others.

Six documentaries will be screened from Dec 6-9 as part of the film festival.
