Film personalities on Thursday welcomed Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa's initiative to facilitate resolution of the crisis arising out of the ban on Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam (Read review: Vishwaroopam: one helluva entertainer, and no sentiments hurt).

"It is a wonderful news for the whole film industry," Radhika Sarath Kumar, who along with other film stars held a meeting at Haasan's residence, told reporters.

Thanking the chief minister, she said the issue would be discussed with Haasan, who is now away in Mumbai for the release of the Hindi version of the film.

Another popular actor Sivakumar said the industry would do whatever is possible to help Haasan release his movie, which has been banned in Tamil Nadu for two weeks after Muslim outfits staged protests due to its alleged portrayal of their community in negative light.

Haasan's brother Chandra Haasan thanked the chief minister for 'intervening at the right time.

"Whatever the government says, we will do accordingly. Without government support, the release of the movie is not possible," he said.

"We are prepared to go for talks with the 23 or 24 Muslim organisations directly or through their coordinators. We are very confident that a satisfactory solution will be arrived at," he said, hoping government would ensure smooth release of the movie and settle the "troubling issue."

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Thowheedh Jamaath, one of the outfits opposed to the movie, said it was ready to give up its protest if Haasan removed objectionable scenes from the film after holding talks with Muslim leaders.

R Rehamatullah, General Secretary of the Jamaath, welcomed the Chief Minister's initiative.

Jayalalithaa said her government is willing to facilitate resolution of the crisis if Muslim outfits and the actor can hammer out an amicable agreement.
