Female elephant found gored to death near Madurai

A female elephant was found gored to death in the Western Ghats forest area near Sethur, nearly eight km from Madurai on Monday. Forest officials said the elephant had been gored by a rogue male elephant and had suffered serious injuries.

A veterinary doctor who did the post-mortem estimated that the pachyderm was 20-year-old. The district wildlife warden Ashok kumar visited the spot for an enquiry.
