A day after BJP's dismal performance in bypoll, Union Minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari slammed the Opposition for raising communal issues during elections. "For some people, 'fear' is their biggest capital. Those people are creating fear among Dalits, Muslims and adivasis," Gadkari said.

Gadkari was in Pune where he interacted with the media on the achievements of NDA government in last four years. The minister said, "Elections are fought on various issues. However, there are some people who unnecessarily communalise the issue for some benefits. Through these issues, they are creating fear in the minds of Dalits, Muslims and adivasis and they are the one who are also spreading the wrong information that BJP is trying to change the Constitution."

"We have not changed anything in Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution. It is the Congress party which has made the changes in the constitution for 72 times," Gadkari said.

Speaking about the EVM controversy, Gadkari took a dig at the Opposition and said, "Now they are not talking about EVM at all."

"When Congress won in Punjab, there was no problem with EVM but when we (BJP) were winning they found problems in EVM. Now also, after the voting, Praful Patel of NCP was giving statements about the problems in EVM but after they won the election, they are not talking about it at all. Now it is Shiv Sena which is talking about it," Gadkari said.

After the poor performance in bypoll, Gadkari stated that his party will work more on taking its developmental work to the people. He said, "We have done lot of developmental work in last four years but there are some MLAs and MPs from our own party who do not have full knowledge of the work we have done. We will have to take more efforts in reaching out to people."
