Farmers in the state will receive Rs 10,000 as immediate relief to start sowing operations for the ensuing kharif season after all the banks in the state on Wednesday agreed to disburse the money.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday chaired the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC) meeting at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. The state government had invited representatives from not only nationalised banks but also from commercial banks for the meeting.

Fadnavis told the bankers to disburse the immediate relief amount of Rs 10,000 without going into detailed aspects of pre-conditions since that was the job of the government. He said that this amount is to be deposited in the crop loan account of the farmers with the state already taking guarantee of the amount. Fadnavis asked the bankers to take an affidavit from the farmers while disbursing the money and after submitting this to the government, it would pay the amount to the banks along with interest. Kesarkar said that the district cooperative banks (DCC) would be in a position to provide money to farmers. Kesarkar said that those DCCs which are facing financial problems would be helped out by the apex bank, Maharashtra state Cooperative Bank.

Fadnavis made it clear during the meeting that the financial health of the state is in good shape and state would also need support from the bankers while implementing the loan waiver package.
