All roads were leading to Nadihal in Bandipora on Wednesday. A Spartan house of slain Riyaz Ahmad has become centre of attraction with dozens of friends, relatives and media men making beeline following the military court verdict in the Machil encounter case.

Riyaz was among the three people who were killed after branding them infiltrators on the Line of Control at Machil. "We are thankful to you who have always stood by us", said Firdous Ahmad to media persons.

Ahmad, however, said that the convicted men should have been death penalty instead of life sentence. "We heard this morning about the sentencing. They should be hanged. People should see that justice should be done," said Riyaz.

Riyaz's family has been fighting for justice for the last four and half years. "We have been giving statements all through. We went to the Dragmulla army camp and recorded the statements," he said.

What however is worrying the family is the threats issued by the civilian accused who are in jails facing trail. "Our boy was lured into the trap. But the worry is that we are being threatened by the civilian accused. My sons even fear to go to work because of these threats," said Naseema, mother of Riyaz.

Few hundred yards away Showkat Ahmad, brother of slain Shazad Ahmad, has a similar story to tell. "We want the civilian accused to be sentenced first. We want justice. It will then satisfy us fully," said Showkat.

Showkat was attending the guests who had come to express solidarity with the family during the day. "They (civilian accused) are threatening us and pressuring us not to depose in the courts. Unless the civilian accused are sentenced to life or death, we will not be satisfied", he said
