Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay on Wednesday accused police of working under pressure and not arresting the AAP government's Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar in connection with the fake degree issue.

"Under the pressure of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal or Law Minister Tomar, I dont know what type of pressure it is, we had been demonstrating on the matter for 12 days but police have taken no action despite a statutory body (Bar Council) writing against him (Tomar)," he said. Earlier in the day, a Delhi BJP delegation met Police Commissioner B S Bassi demanding that an FIR be registered and action taken against him for possessing "fake" degrees.

"We presented documents including the Bar Council complaint and papers of Awadh University and Bhagalpur University proving Tomar's degrees were fabricated," he said. He said Kejriwal, who talked of "high standards and morality, was keeping his eyes shut towards Tomar's case".

Upadhayay said they demanded the Commissioner register a case against Tomar and AAP MLA Pramila Tokas "who is charged with a non-bailable offence and take action against them". "We have given one week's time to police after which if no action is taken, BJP will launch a massive agitation for removal of Tomar," he said. Upadhyay said BJP has demanded an investigation into Tomar's case by the Crime Branch apprehending it may involve a big racket of fake degree suppliers.
