An exhibition on women freedom fighters of the Left was today inaugurated by the All India Democratic Women's Association here.

At the exhibition, homage was paid to one of AIDWA's founding members Captain Lakshmi Sehgal.

The exhibition was inaugurated by AIDWA vice president and Sehgal's daughter Subhashini Ali and over two hundred women from different parts of Delhi and NCR participated in the meeting, the association said.

It said on this day every year, it pays homage to Sehgal and the exhibition is about her and other leaders of the women's movement who espoused an idea of the nation that was secular and egalitarian in character.

Speaking on the occasion, Ali recalled the contribution of the women freedom fighters and how they fought for their idea of India based on equality of all citizens.

The statement said that later in the day, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat also visited the exhibition and the programme ended with a street theatre show 'Chor Machaye Shor' by Jana Natya Manch.
