A letter and a revolver were recovered from the hotel room where former SP MLA Anaar Singh Diwakar was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Sunday in Kotwali area here, police said on Monday.

The letter mentioned the name of five persons, belonging from Delhi, who duped Diwakar of Rs 350 crore, due to which he took the extreme step, police said. Diwakar had checked into Shikhar hotel on Saturday and he was found dead in Room No 402 of the hotel yesterday along with a revolver lying near the body. Police has sent the body for post-mortem and workers of hotel are being interrogated.

Police are investigating the matter, SSP Surendra Kumar Verma said, adding, apparently this was the case of suicide. However, the family members of the deceased have alleged this to be a case of murder and an FIR has been filed against unidentified persons in this connection.

Diwakar was elected from Jalesar constituency to Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha on SP ticket in 2002. He later contested Lok Sabha election from Hathras as SP candidate in 2009, but was defeated. In 2012 Assembly elections, he contested again on Congress ticket. He was recently re-inducted into SP by party national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav.
