Terming the inquiry into irrigation scam and other scams which allegedly involved NCP leaders as farce, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday said that BJP wants to keep NCP on tenterhooks to garner their support in case Shiv Sena deserts the government.

Addressing a press conference in Pune, Chavan said that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's statements on inquiry into NCP leaders' involvement in various alleged scams were nothing but an effort to save the government. Chavan said that BJP is not confident of continued support from Shiv Sena and that is the reason it wants to ensure NCP's support to the government if the situation arises.

Criticizing the Centre he said that the prime minister's office has been converted into a mini Gujarat as all the appointed officers in it speak only Gujarati. Chavan said that prime minister Narendra Modi is working as a dictator and all the democratic norms, including those for appointments, are being flouted. Although there is a cabinet committee for appointments, it is not being given the right to do its duty since Modi himself makes all the decisions, the former CM said adding that Modi is continuously abroad and the foreign minister is not visible anywhere.

Chavan also said that whenever any head of a nation visits a foreign country, he ensures investment for his country, but Modi is visiting foreign countries with a chequebook distributing money. That is the reason he is getting big reception abroad, he added.

Commenting on completion of a year of the Modi government, Chavan said that their performance has not been satisfactory at all.
