BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra also dismissed JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar's popularity saying it is not going to last for long as "to become hero, one has to go through a lot of grind and doesn't become a hero overnight."
Apparently targeting the opposition, BJP on Wednesday hit out at "those who are deliberately trying to feign ignorance" about the recent events in JNU and Hyderabad Central University including the debate on intolerance, saying internal security isn't possible by playing the game of "hide and seek".
"As far as internal security is concerned, there is preparedness, be it Army, paramilitary or the police. Then there is assessment of threat... But we need to think beyond, apart from preparedness, apart from policy making, third is perception of threat. For so many months, we have been having debates about what has happened in JNU as if we have not been able to understand what happened there. Everyone has understood but when some try to feign ignorance deliberately, that is regrettable," BJP national spokesperson, Sambit Patra, said addressing a seminar on 'National Security Threats'.
Patra said internal security is not possible by playing this game of hide and seek. "And today, this hide and seek is going on in the country. Everyone knows what happened in JNU. What happened in India on intolerance debate, what happened in Hyderabad university, what was right and wrong," he said.
Patra also dismissed JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar's popularity saying it is not going to last for long as "to become hero, one has to go through a lot of grind and doesn't become a hero overnight."
In a veiled attacked on Congress, he said that some people try to rake up communalism and secularism in every thing.
"Just think what is happening in India today. Veer Savarkar is anti-national, Subhas Chandra Bose was a war criminal and Bhagat Singh gets equated with Kanhaiya, this is the state of affairs in country. Ishrat Jahan is termed a martyr and ambulance services are being run in her name. Osama bin Laden has become Osama ji and Afzal is Guru ji. And Kanhaiya is not saying all this, not JNU students, if they were saying so, we would have held a debate on that. But when people who remained ministers in earlier government are saying so, it becomes a matter of concern... Yes, this is a democratic country, that is why they are 44 (inference to the number of members of Congress in Lok Sabha) today," he said.
Speaking on the intolerance debate, Patra said, "India can never be intolerant, a few people are trying to defame this country."
The BJP spokesperson also addressed the issue of suicide of Hyderabad Central University Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula and said he should not be made a hero as "he gave up the will to fight."
"I am sitting amongst youth today. Who is to be seen as hero, you have to think over it. Rohith Vemula cannot be made a hero, suicide is a bigger crime.. One who kills one's soul, who gives up will to fight, never make him a hero. If you have faced any injustice, you have to stand up and fight. It is an irony today that some political leaders like Rahul Gandhi say Rohith Vemula is a hero. Rather fight problems raised by Vemula. You are youth, one does not have to die, we have to kill the problem, not ourselves." He also said that "Bharat Mata ki Jai alone will not do, you will have to dedicate yourself to Bharat Mata (in service of the motherland)."
