A day after the two factions of the ruling AIADMK merged, MLAs owing allegiance to sidelined party Deputy General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran met Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, and demanded a change of Chief Minister.

MLAs supporting TTV submitted a letter to Governor saying that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) has lost their confidence by inducting OPS as deputy CM without consulting them.

The MLAs also gave a separate letter to Governor withdrawing support to Chief Minister K Palaniswami government.

"We have demanded a change of CM," said MLA Thanga Thamilselvan. It was Panneerselvam (OPS) who split the party resulting freezing of the party symbol, he added.

"Governor has assured as to consider our demand," Thamilselvan said.

Thanga Tamilselvan had also questioned why EPS was giving importance to Panneerselvam, "who has just nine MLAs" with him, whereas it was the 122 MLAs of the AIADMK Amma faction who had voted for the government in the February 18 trust vote.

Meanwhile, leader of the Opposition and DMK working president MK Stalin has written to Governor urging him to direct Palanisami to prove his majority on the floor of the House.

Rival AIADMK factions led by Chief Minister K Palaniswami and rebel leader O Panneerselvam merged, ending a nearly seven-month feud in a power-sharing formula in the ruling party and the government in which the latter was made the deputy chief minister.

As the merger brought to an end weeks of suspense during which there was tough negotiations, the two factions said steps would be taken to expel party chief V K Sasikala.

The merger facilitated the return of Panneerselvam to the government as Finance minister, isolating Deputy General Secretary T T V Dhinakaran, Sasikala's nephew, and his camp.

Calling each other 'Annan'(elder brother), both Palaniswami and Panneerselvam described the merger as "historic".
