An apex body of the city's engineers has withdrawn its letter to Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel seeking action against the committee on government undertakings (COGU) for allegedly insulting senior DJB officials.

In its letter to Goel on July 14, the Delhi Engineer's Association had alleged that the assembly panel, headed by AAP MLA Vishesh Ravi, "humiliated" Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO Keshav Chandra and other officers in a meeting.

Two days after it, the association shot off another letter to Goel on July 16, saying it has learnt that the COGU is one of the committees directly elected by the assembly and is not a government-appointed committee as was "incorrectly" claimed by them.

"We respect the right of legislative committee to conduct its proceedings the way it decides to conduct as permitted under rules.

"We withdraw our reference letter dated July 14 and look forward to continue to work with elected representatives in the interest of public," it also said.

Following the July 14 meeting of committee headed by AAP MLA Vishesh Ravi, the engineers' association had then called for a strike, which was deferred after its representatives had met Water Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam.

The assembly panel headed by Vishesh Ravi, was probing a case related to alleged irregularities in the tendering process of 14 sewage treatment plants.

Last week, Gautam had said, "The panel had asked the DJB CEO to appear before it over this issue. Instead of calmly responding to the queries, he shouted at the members of the panel.

"Few officials were later misguided and misled into agitating and hampering work of the DJB."
