Engineer death: Former Tamil Nadu minister SS Krishnamoorthy arrested

Former Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister SS Krishnamoorthy was arrested by the state Crime Branch-CID on Saturday night in connection with engineer S. Muthukumarasamy death case.

Krishnamurty was summoned for questioning by CB-CID official and was arrested late last night, a Senior CB-CID official said.

"As part of further investigation, he is being taken to Tirunelveli," the official added.

Also, another official of the department Senthil has been arrested along with the former minister, he said.

Mr Krishnamoorthy was also dropped from the Cabinet and stripped of his post in AIADMK as Tiruvannamalai south district secretary, over allegations that he had put pressure on the engineer, Muthukumarasway.

Muthukumarasamy, an Executive Engineer in the agriculture department, killed himself by jumping in front of a train at Thatchanallur in the district on February 20.

Before his death, Muthukumarasamy got several calls from some select numbers. Based on call records and statements by agriculture officials, the police team was probing the role of the former minister's personal assistants.
