The Era of DC in Indian Railways has come to an end.

An era in the history of Indian Railway will come to an end on Sunday. 

Central Railway will operate a special traffic block on CST-Panvel Up and Dn Harbour Lines and Thane-Vashi/ Belapur/Panvel Up and Dn Transharbour Lines including yards, sidings, to convert the electrical systems from 1500 Volt Direct Current to 25000 Volt Alternating Current. The block will be between 11:30pm to 6:20am on the intervening night Saturday/Sunday.

The Harbour and Transharbour lines were the last segments on Indian Railways that ran on Direct Current. A special DC train- the last on the railways, will be run between Kurla and CST and it will have complimentary passes costing Rs 10000 all of which will be given to charity. The DC special 9-car local will run from Kurla departing at 11:30pm and reaching CST at 11:59pm on Saturday.
