Reacting to DNA's October 12 story on the Commonwealth Games scam, the developer Emmar MGF Construction Pvt Ltd (EMCPL) refuted findings of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) reported earlier.

A study conducted by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) under the aegis of the Urban Development Ministry, suggest that substandard materials were used to build the township. And what they found was an eye opener. As per government records, the cost of initial construction was Rs 190 crores. To repair or correct the defects pointed out by the CPWD, the developer will need to spend Rs 50 crores on the project.

In a statement to DNA, the company said, “EMCPL refutes the finding of the CPWD report as the intention and credibility of the report cannot be established. The report seems to have been made without proper brief and consultation with EMCPL. CPWD has no locus standi to inspect and render judgment on these issues.”

Most of the issues raised in the CPWD report are issues related to upkeep and maintenance of the Complex which is being taken care of directly and under the supervision of the elected members of Commonwealth Games Village Allottes Association since the project was completed more than 5 years back and can be maintained only with good practices of operation and maintenance.
