Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat with a clear majority as the party took leads in both states.

"Trends very clear, we will form the government in both states," he said.

The BJP is leading in over 100 seats while the Congress nominees are ahead in 70 seats, as per the latest trends.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who earlier trailed behind his Congress rival Indranil Rajyaguru after the counting of postal ballots, is now leading in Rajkot West seat.

In the 2012 elections, the BJP had won 115 seats while the Congress emerged victorious on 61 seats.

In Himachal Pradesh, the BJP has crossed the halfway mark and is ahead in 42 seats while the ruling Congress is leading in 23 seats.

However, Congress veteran and six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his son Vikramaditya Singh are leading from Arki and Shimla (Rural) respectively.

Independents are leading in two constituencies while the CPI(M) is ahead in one.
