The Election Commission on Thursday censured Union Steel Minioster Beni Prasad Verma for making highly insulting statements against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi during his election campaign speeches.

The EC in its order has said that one more violation will result in ban on Verma from campaigning for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

On April 20, Verma, while speaking in Lucknow, had alleged that Modi committed murder at the age of 18 and ran away from home. He also alleged that several criminal cases were registered against Modi at various police stations in Gujarat, but he "took care of them" when he became the chief minister.
