Election Commission begins Lok Sabha polls preparations in Gujarat

The election commission is mindful of the fast approaching Lok Sabha polls and has started preparations in the state for the same. The ballot units have reached different district headquarters and polling stations also have been finalised.

Sources from the Gujarat government said, "The election commission has procured all new ballot units including EVM, control units and VVPATs for the elections. More than 67,000 control units and VVPAT have arrived from Bharat Electronics Limited in Bengaluru. While 80,300 voting machines also have come. Over 13 districts have been designated their ballot units and control units and have been sent to concerned headquarters."

"The old EVMs used in Gujarat during past elections have been sent to Bihar and Kerala. There were such 40,000 units. The new EVMs and control units are in the custody of collectors and the first level checking of these units will be held on November 15 in presence of representatives of different political parties," the sources added.

All the units that have reached are M3 version. The remaining units will reach by October 30 in all 33 district headquarters of the state.

On the other hand, the office of chief electoral officer(CEO) in Gujarat is preparing for the declaration of voters list.

Sources from CEO's office said, "The election commission has decided all the polling stations and there are such 51,703 polling stations. The final list of voters will be published on January 04, 2019 and the last day of roll revision has just completed on Monday."

Gujarat officials deputed in other polls

Gujarat CEO Dr S Murali Krishna will go to Bhutan for the polls to be held on Saturday. He is one of the two officials from across the nation been deputed to observe the polls in neighbouring Himalayan country. Meanwhile, the EC has deputed 39 IAS and GAS cadre officials from Gujarat as poll observers in five states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.
