Eight arrested in Surat gang rape case

A gang rape complaint was filed at Pandesara police station by a commercial sex worker, Sapna (name changed), who claimed that she was raped by 13 people at Bamroli in Pandesara on Tuesday night.

Officials of the Detection of Crime Branch arrested eight people in the gang rape case of Surat. All the accused were arrested from Pandesara area by a police team of DCB, Surat City. The police are now hunting for other accused.

The arrested include Ganesh Sonvane (23), Nana Parmeshwar (23), Ajay Dodish (19), Vajiya Thindware (21), Rajesh Wakode (24), Govinda Sirsad (22), Krishna Mahale (20) and Balram Jaina (20).

Police investigation revealed that Sapna’s husband had left her. She lived with her two kids. One of the kids used to remain ill most of the times. Sapna then entered the flesh trade to meet the needs of her family.

On Tuesday, the victim, a resident of Variyaavi Bazaar near Chowk bazaar, was first taken by two youths to a flat in Bamroli. After the duo had their session, they forced her to get physical with 11 other friends of theirs.

She was finally dropped off near Saptshrungi temple at Bhatar at 5 am by the duo.
The woman managed to reach her house and narrate the incident to her room-mates, who took her to Chowk Bazaar police station.

The cops took Sapna to New Civil Hospital for medical examination and eventually the complaint was filed. The case was handed over to DCB on Wednesday.
