While five persons have been arrested from Sopore township in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, which was the worst affected area, three more were taken into custody in Khrew area of Awantipora district of south Kashmir.
"We have arrested five people from Sopore in connection with the attacks," Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, SJM Gilani told PTI.
Gilani said police was questioning the arrested persons. A senior police officer in south Kashmir, on the condition of anonymity, said three persons were arrested in Khrew. "We are questioning them," he said.
Meanwhile, police has restored 1276 of the 1371 mobile transmission towers affected by the recent militant attacks in the Valley while efforts are on to make the remaining towers functional soon.
"Police with the assistance of the telecom companies has made 1276 mobile transmission towers functional as of today," police sources said, adding 97% of the towers in the Valley were functional as of today.
The sources said the remaining 95 towers would be restored soon. Sopore, a police district, was the worst-hit area where all but two of the 177 towers were shut down in the wake of a series of attacks by militants that led to death of two persons and injuries to three others.
"100 towers have been restored, while the remaining 75 will be restored in a day or two," they said.
Two people were killed, several others having links with cellular companies threatened and many telecom towers were damaged by militants in Kashmir Valley recently, raising concern in the Home Ministry.
