Irani on her recent visit to Amethi to celebrate two years of NDA government, had inaugurated a satellite campus of Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar University in the Congress bastion.
Human resource development minister Smriti Irani took on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and drafting committee chairman of New Education Policy TSR Subramanian at the press meet called to highlight the two years achievement of her ministry.
Irani on her recent visit to Amethi to celebrate two years of NDA government, had inaugurated a satellite campus of Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar University in the Congress bastion. Taking on Rahul Gandhi, Irani said, "For years that area has been ignored. There is no government run higher education institution in the area. My endeavour is to make quality education available to the people of that area."
Speaking on the New Education Policy, the draft report of which is yet to be made public, Irani said that the draft is being sent to the state partners for suggestions. "We are sending the report to states to seek their opinion," she said. However the ministry has already sought opinions from states in the nationwide consultation held last year.
Taking on Subramanian who announced that he will make the draft public if the ministry fails to do so, Irani said, "The draft report is not the legacy of any individual. It is the document of the nation. Statements being made by Subramanian are misleading and distasteful," she added.
The ministry has decided to seek opinion of the states on the draft Education Policy before putting it in public domain.
Highlighting her ministry's two years achievement, Irani thanked the states for their corporation in rolling out the policies of the centre. She however used the occasion to take a jibe at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. While all the states have submitted their education plans to the ministry, the national capital is yet to do so. "It is unfortunate that while all states have submitted their higher education plan to the ministry, Delhi is the only state whose plan is yet to reach us," she said.
The minister also had some relief for the IIT aspirant. The minister used the occasion to assure that there will be no need to undergo rigorous coaching for cracking the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). "The IIT council has assured us that the entrance paper will be set keeping in mind the class 12 syllabus and not what is taught in the IITs. The aspirants will not have to undergo training in the coaching institutes," she said.
