The current government may be continuously singing the tune that they have been successful in improving the state of economy but a survey conducted by TALEEM Research Foundation for Zee News, tells a different story. While 42.6 percent of the participants think that the state of economy has deteriorated, as much as 23.3 percent feel there is no visible change in the state of economy. The remaining voters were divided between those who could not say anything about the state of economy (14.5 percent) or 19.6 percent voters who thought it was better than five years ago. The sample clearly shows the dissatisfaction among the people about the incumbent UPA government. Thus it is evident that the deteriorating state of economy will be one of the major issues this election.
These findings become even more important in the backdrop of the rising prices of essential commodities and inflation, which also is being cited as key election issue. UPA government has been under severe criticism for handling the economy in spite of being led by a famed economist. Ten years of UPA government has seen some of the worse economic conditions in recent times including the global financial crisis. While the government seem to be blaming the international situation, the voters clearly aren’t amused by the excuse.
