EC bribery case: Dinakaran's wife Anuradha questioned by Delhi cops

Sleuths start probe after learning Mallikarjuna handled her finances and those of the firms under her name

A team of New Delhi Crime Branch police officers raided the residences and office of TTV Dinakaran, AIADMK Amma Faction Deputy General Secretary, and his aide on Thursday. The officers also questioned Dinakaran's wife Anuradha in connection with the case.

Sanjay Sherawat, Assistant Commissioner of Police, led the five-member team to Chennai, along with Dinakaran and his aide Mallikarjuna, to gather more information about "illegal channels" used to transfer money to Delhi to bribe Election Commission officials. Dinkaran and his aide were first taken to a guest house in Rajaji Bhavan, Besant Nagar where police interrogated them for two hours till 4 am. After which both were taken to Dinkaran's residence in Adyar's Venkateswara Nagar, where the police conducted raids and interrogated Anuradha and her personal assistant, Janardhanam.

"After being interrogated for two hours at Dinakaran's house, Mallikarjuna was taken to TTV's office at Karpagam Garden for an inquiry and was again brought back to Dinakaran's house a half hour later," police sources said, adding that he was taken to his residence in Anna Nagar's Shanthi Colony to conduct raids. Mr Sherawat questioned Anuradha about the money trail, along with Mallikarjuna who handles the finances of the business run by her.

Dinakaran was arrested on Tuesday night along with Mallikarjuna, who had allegedly arranged the first installment of the Rs 10 crore bribe (of Rs 50 crore) through a businessman based in Tamil Nadu that was illegally handed over to Sukesh Chandrasekhar through hawala operators.
