Delhi University on Monday issued memos to four students organisations including ABVP and CYSS for violating the model code of conduct for DUSU election. "The election office has issued memos to four parties for violation of model code of conduct," Chief Election Commissioner for DUSU polls DS Rawat said.

The parties are Congress-affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI), BJP's Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Aam Aadmi Party's Chatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), and India National Students Organisation (INSO), an independent body. "The major violations included use of printed material for campaigning and usage of names of political parties in it," Rawat said. "These parties have been asked to reply to the memo by 6 PM tomorrow," he added.

Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections are scheduled for September 11 and the counting of votes will be held a day later. The university does not permit any endorsement of candidates by political parties.

According to the Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations, the parties cannot use printed material and are expected to resort to handmade posters and the expenditure limit is of Rs 5,000.

DU had last week said that it was mulling action against CYSS following complaints that the organisation was using "money power" in campaigning by organising a star-studded rock concert where Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had made announcements promising free Wi-Fi, one lakh jobs and higher education loan schemes. "I have sought legal opinion on what action can be taken on the complaint against the party. However, no decision has been taken in this regard yet," Rawat said.
