Durga Puja or Pujo is the main festival of Bengali community where they indulge in the festivitiesand food.

While the rest of the country celebrates Navratri, and maintains a vegetarian diet, 'Pujo', for the Bengali is a time to indulge. Freshly-fried fish cutlets, fluffy egg rolls with their crunchy paratha coverings, and puffed-up luchi and mutton kosha.

A cooking oil ad by Fortune Foods rubbed members of the Hindu Janjagriti Samiti the wrong way who have stated that eating non-veg food during Navratri was prohibited.

Controversy over the negative publicity of the their ad, Fortune Foods took to Twitter to apologise and withdrawal of the video. However, many people took to Twitter to express that 'other communities should not be offended as this is only aimed at the non-vegetarian Bengalis. “An advt is an advt. This is aimed at the food loving non vegetarian Bengalis and not at other communities, who abstain from non veg foods during Navratri. So, I don't see any reason why other communities should be offended. Ma Durga is coming to her Baaper bari and the celebration should be likewise, shouldn't it,” one Twitter user wrote.

Taking view of all the comments, Fortune Foods on Sunday issued a fresh statement.

"Over 2 yrs we are celebrating the idea of #PetPujo with Bengali Foodies around the time of Durga Pujo. This year our video touched 1.5+M viewers in Bengal alone, and our Brand continues to receive oodles of love on Social Media. We respect food choices made by every community," Fortune Foods said on it's official Twitter account.

"And we will fervently guard against accidentally hurting people's sentiment. Our apology for one is not an insult for the other as will be witnessed from the comments that continue to pour in. Do read, watch and show some more love."

We are a country filled with diversities, rich in our cultural differences. Perhaps, it's time we respect each other's traditions and live peacefully and probably focus on the real issues that the country needs to deal with like poverty, sexual abuse, etc.
