Durga Puja 2016: Detailed schedule and timing of rituals for Devi Katyayani

It is that time of the year again when people unite to celebrate Durga Puja. All across India, people have prepared for Navratri and the nights of garba. The atmosphere will be electric with the energy of the festival over the next few days. However, it is important that the timings of the rituals and the dates are strictly adhered to. Here is a detailed list of all the dates and times:

Mahashashti - October 7: Shoshti Puja or Katyayani Puja, Saraswati Awahan, Kalparambha (within 8-30am), Akal Bodhon/Amontron, Adhivas Puja is celebrated on this day according to the Bengali calendar (panjika)

Timing: Previous day 1-52pm to that day 3-30pm; Akal Bodhon/Amontron, Adhivas Puja to be held in the evening.

Mahashaptami - October 8: Saptami Puja or Kalaratri Puja, Navpatrika Puja or Kolabou Puja done according to the Bengali calendar

Timing: Previous day 3-31pm to that day 4-46pm; Navpatrika and Saptami puja, after 7-02am but before 9-28am; Predawn bathing of Kolabou

​Mahashtami - October 9: Ashtami Puja or Maha-Ashtami Puja or Mahagauri Puja, Sandhi Puja, Kumari Puja and Saraswati Puja done according to the Bengali calendar

Timing: Previous day 4-47pm to that day 5-34pm; Sandhi Puja 5-10pm to 5-58pm, Sacrifice at 5-34pm

​Mahanabami - October 10: Maha Navami Puja, Ayudha Puja and Durga Balidan done according to the Bengali calendar

​Timing: Previous day 5-34pm to that day 5-50pm; Nabami Puja within 9-28am

Dashami - October 11: Dashami Puja, Durga Visarjan (idol immersion), Vijayadashami, Sindoor Utsav done according to the Bengali calendar

Timing: Previous day 5-51pm to that day 5-37pm; Dashami puja and immersion ritual begins within 9-28am
