Dumb luck: Pune woman dumps old purse containing jewellery worth Rs 3 crore in garbage during Diwali, later retrieves it

During her ritualistic Diwali cleaning, Rekha Sulekar gave an old handbag lying in her house to a ghanta-gadi, the garbage collecting van.

A Pune resident who threw her old purse out while cleaning her house for Diwali, later found out that it contained jewellery worth Rs 3 lakhs, and was able to get the purse back.

During her ritualistic Diwali cleaning, Rekha Sulekar gave an old handbag lying in her house to a ghanta-gadi, the garbage collecting van.

She late realised that the bag contained precious jewellery, and her family contacted the PCMC health officials, who advised her to go to a specific dumping yard to retrieve the bag.

An employee of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) searched frantically for an hour and was able to find the bag with the precious items inside. The bag contained precious items inside.

Reportedly, the woman sought the help of a social worker, who afterward called the PCMC health department team. 

The corporation employee then returned the bag safely to the owners.
