A drunk man allegedly strangulated his wife to death over some family dispute in Azad Nagar area late on Monday night. The accused was arrested after the murder.

Sunil Thanwar, a resident of Azad Nagar, strangulated his wife Babita after some argument in the house and fled the scene.

The family members including mother, elder brother and sister in-law had gone to attend last rites at the house of a relative when Sunil arrived drunk at his house and abused Babita.

When she argued, Sunil lost his cool and pushed the wife on floor and strangulated her.
His 8-year-old son was deep asleep when he committed the murder.

The accused came out of the house and called his elder brother over his cell phone that he had killed Babita and when the family members reached the house, they found Babita was lying dead in a room.

He immediately reached area police station and informed police about the case and after a brief search police caught the accused roaming in the locality shouting that he killed his wife.

Azad Nagar police station in-charge BP Varma said that Sunil is a sanitation worker in Indore Municipal Corporation and an alcoholic.

The murder seems to be an outcome of soured relationship between the couple over the habit of drinking of accused and suspicion of infidelity, he added.
