Dr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group and ZEE  addressed over 400 students of the Symbiosis International University, Lavale, Pune on Monday. He discussed the true meaning of success and the various ways to attain it during the session. Explaining that gaining success is a continual process, he said, "A successful person is one who builds a strong foundation with the bricks that have been thrown at him. Success is not a final destination, it is a journey. If a person considers it as the final destination, then it will go away. Instead, we should let the success within us drive us even further.”

Addressing the students and their varied questions about the most effective way to be successful, Dr. Chandra said, "When doing something, if a person thinks of the past, then there will be regrets and if he focuses on the future, there will be anxiety. Instead, he should live in the present and concentrate on the job at hand. Only then will his actions be dynamic and lead to success.” He also opined that there is one major obstruction that comes in the way of true success and that is greed. He cited Gautama Buddha's teachings and said, "According to the teachings of Gautama Buddha, craving is the seed of greed. Craving can be not only for material gains but it can be for comforts of all five senses and can be of any kind. Greed is the major reason for a human being’s mysteries."

Dr. Chandra also explained the difference between ambition and greed and said that being hungry for success is important but being greedy will never lead anyone to the path of true success. He recounted an incident from his life and said, "There are times when you need to figure out whether your needs are legitimate or not, because when you prioritise illegitimate needs, that is when greed takes over. I remember an incident when the Indian army had floated a tender. There were four other companies along with mine who were applying for it. However, my greed took over and I went ahead and got the tender for lower rates compared to them. By the end of it, I realised that I had suffered losses because I had gone ahead under the influence of my illegitimate need.”

Dr. Chandra concluded his session with an insightful message about success and how important it is to give something back to the society, “The true measure of how successful you are lies in what you have given back to society, rather than the materialistic gain that may have come along with it."

The session was organised as part of the episodes of the Dr. Subhash Chandra Show. The DSC Show has successfully completed 25 episodes travelling to cities across India, including Mumbai, Noida, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Ghaziabad and Pune. The show will be aired on Saturday at 10 pm on Zee News and 7pm on Zee Business and on Sundays at 11 on both Zee News & Zee Business.  This show will also be aired on other channels of Zee Media.

Dr. Chandra has consistently demonstrated his ability to identify new businesses and lead them on the path to success. It takes immense courage and motivation to shape ideas into reality. From trading goods, setting up a packaging industry to opening up theme parks and multiplexes, and creating India’s largest and most profitable TV media group and launching an English newspaper, Dr. Chandra has travelled a long way. It was Dr. Subhash Chandra's vision that helped give birth to the satellite TV industry in India in the year 1992.
