J&K: Dozens injured in Pulwama as more videos surface

Dozens of people were injured when clashes broke out between students and police outside the Government Degree College (GDC) Pulwama, leaving several people injured, even as more videos of the security forces and people surfaced on Saturday.

Police said a normal naka was established around 200 metres away from the Degree College Pulwama and when classes ended some miscreants started pelting stones at the naka party.

"To handle the stone pelting, reinforcements were rushed to the spot. The mob swelled as more students joined and pelted stones on the forces. In this incident some miscreants and police personnel were injured. One of them was referred to Srinagar hospital where his condition is stable," said a police spokesman.

Police also clarified that no raids were conducted and video being shared on social networking sites is not from Pulwama.

Locals said the clashes erupted after students marched in protest against the naka being set up outside the college.

"Every day the naka is set up 200 metres away from the college. Today between 1.30 pm to 2 pm when students left the college there was a stone pelting on the naka. Later on the clashes erupted," said Rayees Mohammad Bhat, Superintendent of Police, Pulwama.

Police sources said more than 35 people are injured which include 15 security force men and an officer. Police sources said some girls were trapped inside the college when the clashes erupted. It created panic and some girls fainted and suffered bruises, sources said.

The clashes erupted on the day when more videos featuring security forces and people surfaced in the valley. In one video, people are seen giving security force man a safe passage when he is caught in the mob. In another video, security forces men are seen beating a youth on a road. In yet another video, security forces were beating some youth in a vehicle. However, the undated videos were not corroborated officially.
