Demanding that the Narendra Modi government pass a law for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, leaders from Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Sangh Pariwar affiliates in Mumbai warned the Centre that the "patience" of Hindus must not be tested.

The Virat Dharmsabha in Mumbai was attended by RSS and VHP functionaries, and Hindu, Jain and Sikh religious heads. Jagadguru Narendracharya Maharaj, who has considerable influence in the Mumbai- Thane- Konkan belt, said the "iron fist" of Hindutva and a Hindu vote bank would force open the government's eyes. "We have no allergy towards any party. Even leaders of secular parties are Hindus. They must support it. The Shiv Sena and BJP openly claim they are Hindutvawadis. They (secular parties) too must support the Ram Temple. We will back them. Remember, if the Ram Temple is not built now, it will not be built easily in future without bloodshed," Narendracharya said.

RSS joint general secretary, Dattatreya Hosabale said they cannot wait longer for the Ram temple. "Make a law for it. If the world's tallest statue can be built for the iron man (Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel), why a law cannot be made for the temple?"

Surendra Jain, joint general secretary, VHP, claimed that the Centre would come forward with a bill to construct the Ram Temple. "The day the temple comes up, terrorism will be finished," said Jain.

Govind Dev Giriji Maharaj congratulated Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray for taking up the issue. "We are creating an atmosphere to wake up the sleeping Kumbhakarna. We have no battle with the government. It has been ensuring development for the last four years... But the Ram Temple must be a priority and must be constructed," he said.

Jain seer Nayapadmasagarji Maharaj said, "Only those who build the Ram Temple will form the next government."

GOOGLE TOO!

  • Google Maps users recently found a controversial marker with the Hindi phrase ‘Mandir yahi banega’ on satellite version of the Map

  • The marker appeared near the disputed site of Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on the virtual map.

  • When questioned, Google said the issue has been “fixed” and the marker removed. It blamed “unhelpful edits suggested by users” for the occurrence of the particular marker.
