Putting a rest to all controversies around the documentary 'Argumentative Indian' on Nobel laureate Amartya Sen by national award winning director Suman Ghosh, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Friday cleared the film for release, without beeping the three words which the board had earlier objected to.
"I have received a formal approval from the CBFC today to release the documentary without beeping out the three words and phrases – 'cow', 'Hindu India' and 'Hindutva view of India'. They have, however, asked me to beep out the word 'Gujarat' where it has been referred to by Professor Sen in connection with the Gujarat riots," Ghosh said.
It was found out that the logjam was solved after a long discussion between Ghosh and CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi, where Ghosh managed to convince Joshi with his logic on obliterating the other three words which the board had objected to in July, 2017. Joshi had watched the film ahead of the discussion. "It is slated for a March release," Ghosh said.

In July, 2017, when Pahlaj Nihalani was the CBFC chief, he had asked Ghosh to beep out all the four words. Ghosh had strongly objected to it and had said that if the board did not give a clearance, he would release the documentary on social networking sites.
