Traffic regulation and water conservation top BJP’s list of priorities in the manifesto for the Delhi assembly elections that will be released on November 22.

The manifesto, exclusively accessed by dna, promises to make rain water harvesting mandatory in the national capital and ban cycle rickshaws in the city.

The party intends to revive Yamuna’s river bed by constructing rainy wells as well as redouble efforts to make it pollution free. A member of BJP’s manifesto committee said that the party will make rain water harvesting mandatory for all new buildings in the national capital and help in setting up the system at existing residential and commercial buildings. “BJP proposes to set up rain water harvesting system in every street and road of the city. Rainy wells would be constructed at Yamuna bed from where the stored water is supplied to different parts of the city. Rain water harvesting would help the city increase water level by 1 to 3 centimetres during the rainy season and also stop depleting ground water levels.”

As part of its sustainable solution to traffic woes in the capital, the BJP plans to remove cycle rickshaws from the city in a phased manner.

A member of the manifesto committee said the existing cycle rickshaws in the capital would be replaced by battery-operated vehicles, and a policy would be framed for regulating these e-rickshaws.

Other promises addressed in BJP’s manifesto include checking price rise, reducing power tariff by 30%, women’s safety, preference to students passing out from Delhi schools in admission to Delhi government colleges, rehabilitation of slums, permanent regularisation of unauthorised colonies and development of Delhi villages.

Commenting on the manifesto, Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said, “The key focus of our manifesto is good governance. We would ensure that Delhi enters the league of world-class cities. But more importantly, our focus is to ensure that it becomes a people-friendly city. The residents of the city should have a better quality of life with affordable basic utilities and clean environment.”
