A day after DNA reported Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd's (IRCTC) demand for a NOC from a bride's parents while applying for a US visa, the subsidiary of Indian Railways has taken cognizance of the issue.

The demand was made while applying for tour packages through travel agencies or IRCTC for the visa application process. Senior IRCTC officials said visa documents are checked whenever an international tour package is planned.

The US Consulate denied asking for any letter from an adult woman's parents for visa application.

Following the story by DNA, IRCTC administration initiated an internal investigation in the matter.

On Tuesday, IRCTC staffers involved in coordinating with travel agencies for international tours and procuring visas were pulled up.

"We have initiated an investigation into the matter, and will be checking the details required for procuring a visa," said Pinakin Morawala, spokesperson for IRCTC (Western Region).

Sources said the list of documents required for the visa process is prepared by travel agencies, and the lapse occurred because IRCTC failed to scan the details minutely. The requirement for a NOC from the bride's parents got added less than two years ago.

Another possibility that IRCTC is exploring is whether the requirement for this 'additional document' was present in the list prepared for Ahmedabad, and blindly copies for the tours proposed from Mumbai as well. However, since the US embassy has categorically denied the request for any such document, it would be objectionable to ask for one even in the Gujarat city.

"We will have to check the minute details as to what is listed in the set of additional documents requested," said a senior IRCTC official. On Tuesday, the Mumbai office of IRCTC closely scanned the tours planned for Sri Lanka and Dubai in the coming weeks for unsanctioned demands.
