Villages settled adjacent to the Line Of Control in Jammu and Kashmir have borne the brunt of Pakistan's frequent and constant cease-fire violations. Since the night of September 4, Pakistan has continuously been targeting villagers in Chakra and Isham villages in Uri sector, laying waste fields, roads, schools and homes.

There are huge holes in the roofs of houses, cannon shells are stuck in the ground and the fields have been destroyed completely by continuous firing and bombing.

On the intervening night of September 4 and 5, Pakistani soldiers hurled a cannonball at a house. Fortunately, it missed hitting any of the 25 people in the house and got lodged in the ground. "There was a deafening sound and all of us were shocked. The ball now sits in the house just like a live bomb," said one of the family members.

"We can't sleep at night," says the headman of Chakara village, "Pakistan is deliberately targeting the residential areas. We desire peace, but Pakistan continues with its dirty tactics. Children are unable to go to school, the whole village lives in constant fear. All of us survived narrowly last time."

A child pipes up: "We are not able to study since every night Pakistan resorts to firing, shelling, which scares us. Instead of this, Pakistan should focus on maintaining peace in the region."

Not just Chakara, Isham and other villages along the LOC are victims of Pakistan's aggression. "If Pakistan wants to wage a war, it should attack Indian forces, targeting us is cowardice," said the headman of Isham. "Pakistan is not competent enough to face Indian soldiers and that is the reason they are targetting us. If they tried, India would teach them a lesson."
