The AIADMK voting in support of the Narendra Modi government in the no-confidence motion has given fresh ammunition for the Tamil Nadu's opposition parties, mainly DMK, to target the state government.

The ruling AIADMK’s support to the Modi government at the centre has come days after the BJP president Amit Shah called Tamil Nadu where the former is in the power since 2011 among the most corrupt states in the country. The statement comes soon after Income Tax raids were conducted on the residence of road contractor who is a business partner of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s relatives.

The opposition parties accused chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami of compromising the state’s interest by voting in support of the BJP. DMK working president M K Stalin said that the AIADMK supported the NDA government as a quid pro quo despite several issues.

“Support for Modi Govt in #NoConfidence despite NEET, 15th Finance Commission, GST, Hindi imposition and communal politics is further proof of the quid pro quo arrangement between ADMK and BJP. IT raids on Chief Minister Edapadi Palaniswami's family have achieved their objective,” Stalin tweeted late Friday night.

Tamil Nadu Cooperative Minister Sellur K Raju said that his party extended support considering the interest of the state and also on the request made by Amit Shah. “Prime Minister Modi has been gracious enough to announce many new schemes to Tamil Nadu. Ministers were able to take up issues and requirements with the concerned department central minister and able to resolve it. So we decided to protect the Modi government,” he told reporters.

Deputy Lok Sabha Speaker and senior AIADMK leader M Thambidurai dismissed the DMK’s charge of quid pro quo arrangement between AIADMK and BJP. He claimed that his party wanted to bring a no-confidence motion during the last session on the issue of Cauvery but the Congress which is an ally of the DMK did not support us. He, however, said that with the centre forming the Cauvery Management Authority, “we don’t see a point in supporting the present motion as it is an issue concerning only Andhra Pradesh.”
